The world’s private investment in space companies more than doubled to $23 billion in the year ended June. The report relates the sector’s greatest interest to the momentum generated by SpaceX’s stock market, although the increase in capital alone does not prove a causal relationship. Capital is becoming more demanding and favours companies with verifiable operations, visible revenues and ability to control their supply chains.

The trend had already begun to emerge in the first months of the year, when investments in the space sector had almost doubled in one quarter, reaching $7.95 billion.
