South Korea’s President Lee to Visit France for Summit, Film Discussion with Macron
Lee and Macron will announce a 500 million euro cinema investment plan as South Korea seeks broader cooperation in security, technology and culture.
- South Korean President Lee Jae Myung is wrapping up a four-day state visit to France on Wednesday after co-chairing the Lumiere Summit with French President Emmanuel Macron and holding bilateral talks on security and economic cooperation.
- The visit coincides with the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the nations, building on the 'global strategic partnership' forged when Macron visited Seoul in April.
- At the Lumiere Summit on Monday, Lee and Macron jointly declared a €500 million investment initiative to support local content companies and co-production projects through 2027.
- During a state dinner at the Elysee Palace, Macron conferred the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour on Lee, who also attended a business roundtable with 20 companies from both nations.
- Before departing Wednesday, Lee will meet with Yael Braun-Pivet, speaker of the lower house of the French parliament, and Mathias Cormann, secretary-general of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, to finalize bilateral goals.
