- Late on Sept 26, a fire at the National Information Resources Service in Daejeon caused wide public-service disruption, suspending operations of 647 major government systems.
- Nirs had been relocating lithium-ion batteries after a 2022 SK C&C data-centre fire, and the blaze began while crews moved the second of six battery groups during a power shutdown.
- At around 8.20pm the blaze ignited in a fifth-floor server room and lasted until around 6.30am, with fire officials saying cramped spacing and one contractor’s first-degree burns complicated response.
- South Korea's mobile ID system froze, disrupting hospital check-ins and airport boarding, while Korea Post's online system and banking services failed and the D-Brain national integrated financial system halted traffic-fine payments.
- With Chuseok approaching, disruptions are especially concerning as food parcels are mailed widely; Prime Minister Kim Min-seok urged swift restoration of critical services including the Government24 platform.
