Son of Hamas Gaza chief injured in Israeli strike, five others killed
Israeli strikes also killed at least 5 people and wounded 17 others as Hamas and mediators held talks on the ceasefire’s next phase, officials said.
- On Thursday, Hamas confirmed that Azzam al-Hayya, son of senior Hamas negotiator Khalil al-Hayya, died from wounds sustained in an Israeli strike in Gaza City's Daraj neighborhood late Wednesday.
- Khalil al-Hayya, who has lost three other sons in previous Israeli strikes, accused Israel of attempting to undermine mediators' efforts to advance the U.S.-brokered Gaza plan.
- The Israeli military source stated that Azzam al-Hayya was not the intended target, claiming the strike aimed at a Hamas Nukhba operative in the Daraj Tuffah area.
- Hamas warned that such "crimes" would not persuade the group to change its positions, stalling serious talks over the second phase until Israel concludes initial obligations.
- While fighting continues, at least 830 Palestinians have been killed since the October ceasefire took effect, as negotiators led by envoy Nickolay Mladenov met in Cairo this week to advance the U.S. plan.
