Saints Running Back Alvin Kamara Expected to Miss Month with Knee Sprain, Report Says

Kamara is expected to miss at least a few weeks after a sprained medial collateral ligament, according to ESPN.

  • On Tuesday, New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara left a joint practice with the Dallas Cowboys after suffering a knee injury. Sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter that Kamara sustained a sprained MCL and faces at least one month of recovery.
  • The Saints signed former Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne to a four-year, $52 million contract in March, positioning Kamara in a backup role. The veteran previously accepted a restructured deal to remain with New Orleans.
  • Kamara, 31, holds the Saints' all-time records for rushing yards with 7,250 and rushing touchdowns with 61. He played a career-low 11 games last season, recording career lows in rushing and receiving yards due to ankle and knee injuries.
  • Second-Year cornerback Quincy Riley also left practice early, with head coach Kellen Moore noting the player suffered a groin injury. The Saints face the Los Angeles Rams in a joint practice Thursday before their preseason matchup Saturday.
  • Kamara will play for the Saints in 2026 on a reworked contract paying a $6 million base salary with incentives totaling up to $8.5 million. This revised deal replaced his previous contract set to pay up to $11.5 million.
