The websites of KaosGL Association and Velvele, as well as numerous social media accounts belonging to LGBT+ organizations, activists, and human rights defenders, have been blocked by a decision of the Istanbul 7th Magistrates' Court. As part of the decision, 14 X accounts have been made invisible from Turkey, while the access ban on 11 Instagram accounts has not yet been implemented.
Although homosexuality is not punishable in Turkey, homophobic behaviors and statements are common.
Homosexuality is not a crime in Turkey, but homophobia is widespread, including in the highest levels of government, with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan describing LGBT+ people as "perverts" who threaten the traditional family.
