Record 125 migrants arrive on British shores in single boat

More than 33,000 migrants have crossed the Channel in 2025, with 27 deaths reported so far amid ongoing efforts by UK and French authorities to control illegal crossings.

  • On Saturday, one vessel carried 125 people across the English Channel, the largest single-boat arrival recorded.
  • Favourable weather conditions allowed around 1,300 migrants to cross this weekend, including almost 900 on Saturday when 14 crossings required emergency response, the Maritime Prefecture of the Channel and North Sea said.
  • Border Force's Ranger arrived in Dover harbour early Saturday evening with 203 migrants, while PA reported 125 taken off the mega dinghy and 78 from a second migrant boat.
  • Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said `These small boats crossings are utterly unacceptable and the vile people-smugglers behind them are wreaking havoc on our borders.` Several people have been removed to France under the UK government's 'one in, one out' deal.
  • At least 27 people have died this year, including two Somali women and a woman found on Sunday at Écault beach, while migrant arrivals in 2025 have topped 33,000.
