The footage shows the 6-year-old cursing at officers as they entered the classroom and was later unsealed after media requests.
- On Tuesday, Oct 6, 2026, newly public bodycam footage from Officer Brian Torrez shows a 6-year-old student cursing at police following the January 2023 shooting of his teacher at Richneck Elementary School.
- The incident occurred on January 6, 2023, when the first-grade student shot teacher Abby Zwerner, whose bullet wound passed through her hand and chest, leaving her with life-threatening injuries.
- Captured by Torrez's camera, the nearly three-minute recording shows reading specialist Amy Kovac restraining the boy as he swears at officers and admits taking the 9mm Taurus handgun from his mother.
- Judge Rebecca M. Robinson ordered the footage unsealed following a media challenge from The Virginian-Pilot and Daily Press; the video served as a prosecution exhibit during former assistant principal Ebony Parker's May 2026 trial.
- A jury awarded Zwerner $10 million in her civil case, while the boy, now nine or 10, remains in his great-grandfather's custody following his mother Deja Nicole Taylor's prison release in February.
