Sir Anthony Hopkins on his debut album: 'My first love is music'
Conducted by Gustavo Dudamel and performed by the Philharmonia Orchestra, the album gathers 12 compositions Hopkins wrote over six decades.
On August 21, Sir Anthony Hopkins will release his debut album, 'Life Is a Dream,' featuring 12 original compositions recorded at London's Alexandra Palace earlier this year through Decca Records.
Though best known for his 70-year acting career, the 88-year-old Hopkins considers music his first vocation, with the collection drawing from his childhood memories growing up in Wales.
Conductor Gustavo Dudamel led the Philharmonia Orchestra in recording the 12 compositions, with Dudamel saying, 'This is wonderful. He is one of the most astonishing people I've met.'
Hopkins describes the music as containing 'melancholy and sadness,' reflecting his belief that life is a 'long goodbye,' while he finds music offers more freedom than acting's rigid discipline.
Live performances may follow the album's release, with Carnegie Hall topping Hopkins' professional wish list, fulfilling a dream rooted in his mother's childhood encouragement.
