Shopify Spikes 7%, Meta Eases as Muse Agent Gains Shop Pay Checkout; Amazon Sits Out the Rally
Meta says the partnership will give Muse users access to more stores and products while using Shopify’s checkout and order-processing infrastructure.
Meta Platforms Inc. and Shopify Inc. announced a partnership on Tuesday allowing Meta's Muse AI agent to browse and complete purchases on Shopify-powered stores through the Shop Pay checkout service.
Introduced earlier this month, the Muse personal AI agent handles scheduling and shopping tasks. The integration leverages Shopify's commerce infrastructure, including structured product data and merchant access, to facilitate agent-driven transactions.
"Teaming up with Shopify to make shopping and checkout easier in Muse," Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said. Shopify CEO Tobias Lütke called it an "easy and delightful way to shop and check out with Muse."
Shopify stock rose 7% in Tuesday morning trading, extending recent gains as analysts view its payments layer as the potential default checkout for third-party AI agent flows.
While Amazon moved to block Muse from completing purchases on its site citing unauthorized access, analysts suggest each agent Amazon rejects could divert more commerce traffic toward Shopify.
