- On Sunday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to represent him and lead Nigeria's delegation to the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, beginning this Tuesday, September 22.
- The 81st UNGA General Debate runs from September 22 to 28, 2026, under the theme, "Restoring trust, managing transformation: A United Nations that delivers for all."
- Senator Shettima leads a high-level delegation including Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, alongside ministers and senior government officials.
- During the assembly, Shettima will deliver Nigeria's national statement and participate in high-level meetings on climate action and the Right to Development.
- The Vice President will attend the traditional reception for Heads of Delegation and participate in bilateral meetings aimed at advancing Nigeria's economic diplomacy, climate finance, and multilateral cooperation.
