‘She’s still helping’: fallen Mountie’s legacy lives on in Langford charity run
Organizers expect 500 to 600 participants as the run raises money for Boys and Girls Club South Vancouver Island and local food banks.
- On Sunday, May 10, Brad Aschenbrenner and his sons will lead the annual Sarah Beckett Memorial Run at Langford's Starlight Stadium, with organizers hoping for around 500 to 600 participants across three- or five-kilometre routes.
- This year marks a decade since Sarah Beckett was killed in the line of duty as a West Shore RCMP officer, an anniversary Brad Aschenbrenner says brings a wave of emotions for his family.
- To date, $160,000 has been raised for the Boys and Girls Club South Vancouver Island and food banks in West Shore and Sooke, with registration priced at $35 or $25 for virtual participation.
- "It's fun doing the event, because everybody comes together for something good," says Brad Aschenbrenner, who notes the run provides kids a glimmer of hope especially on Mother's Day.
- By supporting causes close to Sarah Beckett's heart, Brad Aschenbrenner says his wife continues to care for the community, offering an opportunity to reflect on the healing his two sons have gained.
