Edwards Joins Red Roses in Consultant Role
On Monday, September 21, 2026, the Rugby Football Union announced that Shaun Edwards has joined the England women's rugby team, the Red Roses, as a consultant for the WXV Global Series.
The 59-year-old defense specialist joined the staff after departing France earlier this year, bringing a decade of coaching experience at Wasps despite never previously holding an England national team role.
Joining head coach John Mitchell's staff, Edwards will travel to North America next month, assisting as the Red Roses rebound after Saturday's draw with Canada ended their 39-match winning streak.
Mitchell said Edwards "expressed an interest in working in an international women's setup," adding he will provide "incredible value" to the squad during the remainder of the series.
Despite the consultancy role, Edwards remains open to future full-time opportunities, having expressed last week a desire to coach in next year's men's Six Nations tournament.
The Englishman Shaun Edwards, French defence coach for six years, joined the staff of England's women's team as a consultant. The English Rugby Federation has just announced this Monday, September 21.
