Sharaz Ali found guilty of murdering ex-partner's sister and her three children in Bradford house fire

Sharaz Ali, motivated by jealousy and fueled by drugs and alcohol, was convicted of murdering four family members in a fire set as revenge for a broken relationship, prosecutors said.

  • On Wednesday, Doncaster Crown Court convicted Sharaz Ali of four counts of murder and one count of attempted murder after he set fire to a Westbury Road, Bradford home last year, killing Bryonie Gawith and her three children.
  • Driven by jealousy after his ex left him, Ali targeted the home; prosecutors said he was fuelled by drink and drugs after Antonia Gawith ended an abusive seven-year relationship.
  • CCTV and Ring doorbell footage show Calum Sunderland filling a seven-litre canister and kicking the door in as Sharaz Ali doused the hallway with petrol and ignited it.
  • Following convictions, Mr Justice Hilliard said `I don't think anyone who heard Antonia's desperate cries for help will ever forget them`, as Ali faces life imprisonment and Sunderland awaits sentencing.
  • Family of Bryonie Gawith described their grief as 'unimaginable sadness and grief,' while Detective Chief Inspector Stacey Atkinson said victims would still be alive if not for Ali's actions.
