Sexual assault trial for ‘Trailer Park Boys’ actor Mike Smith dismissed
Judge Jill Hartlen dismissed the charge after prosecutors offered no evidence, ending a three-day trial before it began.
On Thursday, Judge Jill Hartlen dismissed a sexual assault charge against actor Mike Smith in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, after the Crown offered no evidence in the case.
Prosecutors charged Smith, 54, in October 2025 regarding an alleged incident from December 30, 2017; the actor, known for playing Bubbles on the 'Trailer Park Boys,' pleaded not guilty in February.
The complainant stated the trial was dismissed "because I am unwilling to sacrifice my mental health" and warned that evidence in sexual assault cases "hinges almost exclusively on the testimony of the victim."
Trailer Park Boys Incorporated stated Smith is resuming his responsibilities following the dismissal, while defence lawyer Stan MacDonald told media that Smith is "happy to put this behind him."
The complainant described withdrawing as a gesture of "reclaiming my agency," noting she remains "intimidated by a system, despite it being 2026, where defence attorneys still use tactics that blame victims.
