The Kremlin is drastically cutting down its most important demonstration of power: Russia is cutting military parades in numerous regions for the day of victory – and even in Red Square the tanks remain out. Instead of triumphal mood, security fears, bans and digital replacement events dominate.
In 15 regions of Russia, parades to celebrate the so-called “Victory Day” in World War II on May 9 were canceled.
In the Kremlin, they're panicked about USO attacks.
On 9 May, only 18 regional capitals (21.2 per cent) of the 85 administrative centres of the regions (including Russia's annexed Crimea and Sevastopol) will host the parades.
