Several people dead including suspect in rural Michigan multi-scene shooting, police say
Investigators say Chad Hickman fled before police arrived, and a manhunt later ended with six dead and one person critically injured.
On Friday, six people—including 39-year-old suspect Chad Hickman—died in a multi-scene shooting in Missaukee County, Michigan. Michigan State Police responded to a 911 call at 11:40 a.m., finding three victims dead at a LaChance Road residence.
Investigators discovered additional deceased individuals near Whitlock Lake in Caldwell Township during their search. Police launched a large-scale manhunt for Hickman after he fled the scene in a white pickup truck before being located.
Michigan State Police Lt. Ashley Miller confirmed there is no threat to the public and patrol officers continue responding to calls. "We're going to conduct a thorough investigation and we want to make sure to keep our community members up to date," Miller said.
Authorities closed South LaChance between West Rosted Road and West Jennings Road due to the active investigation. Police have not released victim names or ages pending family notification.
Investigators are working to piece together the motive behind the tragedy while officials have not yet disclosed how the individuals died or the circumstances connecting the multiple scenes. A motive remains under investigation.
