Seven killed as SUV crashes into trailer truck in Gujarat's Bhavnagar
Police said the victims worked at the Alang shipbreaking yard and were commuting from Bhavnagar when the SUV struck a parked trailer.
- Seven people died on Tuesday after an SUV crashed into a stationary trailer on the Bhavnagar-Somnath National Highway near Trapaj village in Bhavnagar district, Gujarat, police said.
- Superintendent of Police Nitesh Pandey stated the victims worked at the Alang shipbreaking yard and commuted the 50-km distance daily from Bhavnagar when the accident occurred.
- The Bolero struck the parked trailer from behind with such force that six people died at the scene, while one victim succumbed to injuries during treatment, Deputy Superintendent Manish Nakum told The Indian Express.
- Rescue personnel forced open the completely wrecked SUV's doors using iron bars to extract the victims, whose bodies were then transported to a government hospital in Bhavnagar for post-mortem examinations.
- Inspector Desai of the Alang police station confirmed an investigation into the crash is underway, with victim identities to be released shortly once post-mortem procedures conclude.
