Serial thief from Hampshire banned from wearing wigs in shops after 'brazen' thefts
Rachael Cole was jailed for 36 weeks and banned from wearing wigs in UK stores after stealing £964 worth of goods, including dog food, during a shoplifting spree.
- On Friday, December 5, Rachael Cole, 44, appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates' Court, admitted four counts of theft, and was sentenced to 36 weeks in prison with a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order banning wigs in shops.
- Between November 10 and December 1, Rachael Cole stole goods totalling £964 from shops in Hook and Liphook, including seven bags of dog food from Sainsbury’s in Liphook while wearing a wig.
- The CBO bans Cole from all Sainsbury’s, Tesco, and the B&M in Bordon, requiring her to keep items in a basket or trolley until paid, and leave Hampshire or Surrey premises when asked.
- Police said CBOs are used to limit re-offending and will be enforced, warning failure to comply will lead to arrest and court enforcement mechanisms after her sentence.
- Inspector Matt Wake, Hampshire Constabulary, described Cole as repeatedly stealing from local businesses, police said theft can be driven by addiction, and they work with local services for addiction support while urging community and business crime reporting channels.
