Stock market today: Sensex, Nifty open higher amid hopes of technical rebound after previous lows
Paytm jumped more than 7% after India imposed a 0.4% merchant UPI fee on payments above Rs 2,000 starting Oct. 15.
- On Wednesday, market benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty rebounded in early trade on value buying. The 30-share BSE Sensex jumped 245.49 points or 0.33 per cent to 74,249.31, while the Nifty opened with a gain of 83 points at 23,201.60.
- Foreign Institutional Investors remained net sellers for the fifth consecutive session on Tuesday, offloading equities worth Rs 2,977.86 crore. Sentiment remains fragile after the Sensex tumbled 777.94 points, or 1.04 per cent, though Domestic Institutional Investors acted as buyers, purchasing Rs 2,686.05 crore.
- Paytm shares surged over 7 per cent following government introduction of a 0.4 per cent fee on UPI payments above Rs 2,000. Within the Sensex pack, Kotak Bank led gains with a 1.32 per cent rise, while Maruti fell 0.31 per cent amid mixed sectoral performance.
- Brent crude traded 0.63 per cent lower at USD 108.1 per barrel, while Asian markets including South Korea's Kospi and Japan's Nikkei 225 quoted in positive territory. Markets await the Federal Reserve's policy decision tonight as a key trigger for direction.
- Hariselvan Radhakrishnan, Founder & CEO of HST Wealth, said the bias for Indian equities remains cautious until there is clarity on oil-driven inflation and the Federal Reserve's guidance. Hawkish commentary could strengthen the dollar and pressure global equities and the rupee.
