Stock markets fall in early trade amid soaring crude oil prices, West Asia conflict
- On Friday, the BSE Sensex dropped 593.43 points, or 0.79 per cent, to 74,309.16, while the Nifty opened lower at 23,270.30 following a negative start indicated by Gift Nifty.
- Brent crude surged above $108 per barrel amid geopolitical anxieties surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, as the US-Iran conflict clogs global crude flows, intensifying inflation worries.
- Market breadth remained negative with 2,273 stocks declining against 460 advancing on the NSE. Indigo fell 2.57 per cent, while HCL Tech led gainers with a 1.19 per cent increase.
- Asian stocks traded lower as Wall Street dragged, led by Japan's Nikkei falling 2.79 per cent. Hong Kong's Hang Seng dropped 0.97 per cent, South Korea's Kospi fell 2.52 per cent, and Shanghai's SSE Composite declined 1.82 per cent.
- Foreign Institutional Investors remained net sellers on Thursday, offloading equities worth Rs 438.24 crore. Conversely, Domestic Institutional Investors purchased equities valued at Rs 1,025.85 crore during the same session.
