Senior Maoist Member Susheela Rani Surrenders Before Telangana Police
Susheela Rani surrendered after citing health issues and government repression, and police gave her ₹5 lakh and interim relief under the rehabilitation policy.
- On Tuesday, senior Maoist leader Nakka Susheela Rani surrendered to Nizamabad Police in Telangana, ending a 34-year association with the outlawed CPI where she served as a Divisional Committee Member of the Maad Divisional Committee.
- Citing health struggles and what she described as increasing government repression, Rani surrendered to Nizamabad Police Commissioner Sai Chaitanya, who provided her with a ₹5 lakh cheque and ₹25,000 in cash relief.
- A native of Bodhan, Rani joined the CPI-ML People's War Group in 1992 after marrying Sunkara Rammohan Rao, who died in a 2001 encounter; she later married State Committee Member Samala Venkateshwarlu, killed in 2006.
- This year, 266 underground CPI cadres have surrendered in Telangana, reflecting increased pressure from security forces and growing trust in government rehabilitation policies.
- With this surrender, only three active underground cadres from Telangana remain in various CPI formations outside the state, leading authorities to conclude the organization appears to be on the verge of collapse.
