Brazil’s Senate on Wednesday approved a national policy for critical and strategic minerals with up to R$7 billion ($1.37 bln) in government incentives, while environmental groups said the framework could accelerate mining without sufficient protections for ecosystems and affected communities.
On Wednesday, September 2, the Brazilian Senate approved Bill 2.780/2024, which establishes the National Policy on Critical and Strategic Minerals, so that it now passes to presidential sanction. The proposal foresees up to R$ 7 billion ($1.370 million) in government incentives to stimulate the processing and transformation of these minerals directly in Brazil.
