Louisiana Senator John Kennedy Considering a Run for Presidency
Kennedy said he would consider a bid if he thinks he could do a better job, while no candidate has formally entered the race.
On Sunday, Louisiana Sen. John Kennedy told NBC's "Meet the Press" he is considering a 2028 presidential run, though his immediate focus remains on his Senate re-election campaign.
Kennedy explained he would consider a bid if he feels he can no longer be effective in the Senate, or "if a bunch of goobers run" on his side of the aisle.
Predicting a crowded field, the lawmaker said former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel will run for president, adding that a full field would benefit both parties.
Vice President JD Vance told NBC News last week it was "really obvious to me" that Sen. Ted Cruz is running, while Kennedy declined to compare himself to Vance.
The 2028 presidential election marks the first time since 2012 that President Donald Trump will not be the Republican nominee, and no candidates have formally announced their campaigns.
