Sekiro: No Defeat Anime Airs in January as 8-Episode TV Series (Updated)
Crunchyroll will stream the eight-episode series worldwide, and the adaptation adds new content while keeping the game’s Japanese cast.
- Crunchyroll announced Thursday that Sekiro: No Defeat will debut as a streaming series on January 8, reconstructing FromSoftware's original 107-minute film into an episodic format.
- Producer Suzuki explained the project originated as a multi-episode TV series, but the team "felt a strong desire to have people experience the film's overwhelming visuals and sound on the big screen first," prompting the theatrical preview.
- Directed by Kenichi Kutsuna for anime studio Qzil.la, the series features new scenes not included in the theatrical version. Composer Ryuichi Sakamoto's theme song "Blu" accompanies the adaptation.
- Crunchyroll will exclusively stream the series worldwide, excluding Japan, China, Korea, Russia, and Belarus. The episodic release includes additional cuts and content reconstructing the story for a different viewing experience.
- While the anime screened in Japan for three weeks starting September 4, additional theatrical screenings are planned for October 2. The original game sold more than 2 million copies worldwide in less than 10 days.
