Seahawks Quarterback Sam Darnold Will Miss some Time, Report Says
Testing showed Sam Darnold has an unusual muscle strain in his hip area, and the Seahawks are evaluating him week to week.
On Thursday, Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald confirmed that quarterback Sam Darnold suffered an "unusual muscle strain" in his hip during Wednesday's 13-10 win over the New England Patriots, though the team ruled out placing him on injured reserve.
Backup quarterback Drew Lock replaced Darnold after five plays, completing 16 of 22 passes for 187 yards and a touchdown in the Seahawks' comeback victory, their 11th straight win dating to last November.
NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported Darnold's return timetable remains undetermined, while avoiding injured reserve prevents a mandatory four-game absence; Rapoport of the NFL Network added he should return "sooner, rather than later."
With 11 days between games until the September 20 matchup at Arizona, Lock is the "likely" starter for the Cardinals game, giving the Seahawks time to evaluate Darnold's rehabilitation progress.
Macdonald expressed confidence in the team's quarterback depth, which includes Jalen Milroe, as the current roster setup allows Seattle to avoid desperate short-term moves while reassessing the situation ahead.
