Seahawks' Sam Darnold Hopes to Return From Glute Injury and Play Against the Commanders
The Seahawks listed Darnold as limited after he worked through warmups and drills, and coach Mike Macdonald said a decision is expected before Friday.
On Wednesday, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold returned to practice for the first time in two weeks, officially listed as a limited participant ahead of Sunday's game against the Washington Commanders.
Darnold sustained the glute injury during the season opener against the New England Patriots on September 9, when he was sacked during the opening drive and left the field in an ambulance.
Head coach Mike Macdonald stated the team will ramp up Darnold's workload throughout the week, noting, "We'll make a decision at some point before Friday's over" regarding his availability.
Backup Drew Lock has excelled in Darnold's absence, leading the Seahawks to two victories with four touchdown passes and zero interceptions, providing a credible option if more recovery time is needed.
Team medical staff must evaluate how Darnold's injury responds to practice activity, as Macdonald emphasized that if the quarterback risks worsening his condition, he will not play, stating, "Does he feel good enough to play?".
