North Shore Community Grieves Sudden Loss of High School Football Captain
The school said counseling is available as Marblehead mourns the senior captain and three-sport athlete.
On Friday, Marblehead High School announced the death of senior football captain Owen Coyne. The team's Saturday morning game against Danvers was canceled as the community mourns the sudden loss.
His mother, Angela Paradise, confirmed Coyne died from "a sudden brain hemorrhage" that was not caused by an impact. The senior had committed to play football at Williams College.
Track and field coach Nolan Raimo described Coyne as "one of the most gifted student-athletes that I have coached." His organs will save the lives of five other people as an organ donor.
Marblehead Public Schools Superintendent John Robidoux announced counselors will be available from 12 to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Robidoux added, "This is a sad day for our Marblehead community."
Classmates honored Coyne at a field hockey game Friday by wearing his number. "Everyone really loved him," classmate Jackson Nutt said, noting how influential the captain was to the school.
