Mozingo’s Late Equalizer for Utah Spoils DeMelo’s Return for Louisville in 1-1 Draw
Brecken Mozingo scored in stoppage time to rescue a point for Utah, and Savannah DeMelo returned to NWSL play after a medical emergency last season.
Savannah DeMelo returned to NWSL play on Saturday, appearing as a substitute in the Utah Royals' 1-1 draw with Racing Louisville. This marked her first match since collapsing during a game last season.
DeMelo recently revealed that she collapsed due to undiagnosed cardiac arrhythmia, a medical condition discovered following her September 14, 2025 emergency. Her lengthy recovery delayed her return to competitive play.
Midfielder Brecken Mozingo scored in stoppage time to salvage a 1-1 draw for Utah. DeMelo reflected on her return, saying "it's probably the greatest accomplishment I'll ever have in my soccer career."
In other NWSL action, the Kansas City Current defeated Bay 5-1 at CPKC Stadium. Midfielder Debinha scored a hat trick in the second half, leading the offensive surge.
The Boston Legacy claimed a 4-2 road victory over the Portland Thorns, who played shorthanded after Sopia Wilson received a 22nd-minute red card for violent conduct. The deficit proved insurmountable.
