Saudi Arabia Urges Restraint, Support for Pakistani Mediation Toward US-Iran Settlement
The kingdom urged restraint and backed Pakistan-led talks as officials warned that renewed escalation could threaten global trade routes.
On Tuesday, The Foreign Ministry of Saudi Arabia called for de-escalation and restraint, supporting Pakistan-led mediation efforts to address the "current military escalation in the region."
Escalation surged Monday when the United Arab Emirates accused Iran of launching 15 missiles at its territory, while Tehran claimed it fired warning shots after destroyers ignored initial alerts.
Calling for restoring navigation in the Strait of Hormuz to its pre-war state, The Kingdom urged all parties to ensure uninterrupted maritime activity to protect global trade routes.
Although a ceasefire took effect April 8 through Pakistani mediation, talks in Islamabad failed to produce a lasting agreement, leaving regional security threats unresolved.
Regional instability has intensified since strikes against Iran on Feb. 28, prompting retaliatory actions from Tehran against Israel and Gulf allies.
