- Wanda Wooten of Right at Home in Northeast Portland identified warning signs including memory lapses disrupting daily life, confusion, and difficulty finding words beyond a 'tip of the tongue' moment, with examples like repeatedly missing bills or becoming lost while driving familiar routes.
- Families should begin conversations calmly and make homes safer through grab bars and improved lighting, Wooten advised, emphasizing, 'just love them for every day that they're here.'
- Community advocacy efforts including the Lane County walk to End Alzheimer complement institutional messaging, with Coordinator Kara Griffey noting that colorful flowers symbolize how the disease affects people's lives differently.
