‘Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story’ Trailer Reveals First Look at Sarah Paulson as Aileen Wuornos
The eight-episode season reimagines the unsolved 1892 murders with fantasy elements and links Lizzie Borden’s story to other female killers, Netflix said.
Netflix released the official trailer for "Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story" on Thursday, the fourth season of creator Ryan Murphy's true crime anthology premiering September 17.
Creator Ryan Murphy said the season explores "female rage" by connecting Lizzie Borden to serial killer Aileen Wuornos and Countess Elizabeth Báthory, questioning why these women committed their alleged crimes.
Ella Beatty stars as Lizzie, with Charlie Hunnam as Andrew Borden and Rebecca Hall as Abby Borden in the eight-episode season directed by Max Winkler and Sarah Adina Smith, featuring Sarah Paulson as Wuornos.
The trailer depicts historical inaccuracies, including a fictionalized romance between Lizzie and maid Bridget Sullivan and scenes showing Lizzie stabbing Abby with a knife, though Borden was acquitted of the 1892 murders.
Unlike previous "Monster" seasons, Borden was acquitted of the 1892 crimes, marking the anthology's first subject exonerated of depicted offenses. Evidence suggests the real Lizzie may not have been a "Monster" at all.
