Gordon Murray's S1 Debuts With a V12 and a Manual Transmission, It's a McLaren in Disguise
The road-legal model uses a 4.2-liter Cosworth V12, a six-speed manual and a three-seat cabin, with production capped at 64 cars.
- At Monterey Car Week, Professor Gordon Murray unveiled the S1, a limited-production supercar designed as a road-going tribute to the McLaren F1 with a manual gearbox and naturally aspirated V12 engine.
- Evolved from the track-focused S1 LM, the new model replaces aggressive aerodynamic appendages with an active aero system and raises ride height by 10mm to improve road usability and touring comfort.
- Inside, the S1 retains a staggered three-seat layout finished in premium leather with enhanced sound insulation and infotainment screens. Its 4.2-liter Cosworth V12 produces 681 horsepower, with 80% peak torque available at just 2,500 rpm.
- Production is limited to 64 units, all already spoken for. Murray acknowledged the challenge, stating "it's very difficult when you have about 70 people who want to buy a car, to say we're only going to do 15."
- While pricing remains undisclosed, analysts expect market positioning similar to the T.50, which starts at roughly $3 million. Gordon Murray, who designed the iconic McLaren F1, continues advancing high-performance automotive engineering.
