Russian drone strike on Ukraine bus kills 12

The strike targeted a bus carrying miners returning from their shift, killing 12 and injuring 16 in a key coal region critical for winter heating, officials said.

  • A Russian drone struck a company shuttle bus transporting miners in Ternivka, Pavlohrad district, killing 12 and wounding seven, regional military administration chief Oleksandr Ganzha said.
  • Russia launched 90 attack drones overnight, with 14 hitting nine locations, while Russia's defence ministry said it used operational-tactical aviation, missile forces and artillery to strike transport infrastructure.
  • Ukraine's energy minister Denys Shmyhal said, "Today, the enemy carried out a cynical and targeted attack on energy sector workers in the Dnipropetrovsk region," while State Emergency Service footage showed a charred company bus with shattered windows and an extinguished fire.
  • With talks set for Feb. 4 and 5 in Abu Dhabi, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine is ready for substantive talks as Sunday’s strikes coincided with the end of a US-announced reduction in Russian strikes by Donald Trump, U.S. President.
  • The strikes further strained Ukraine's energy infrastructure, already in crisis, amid the fourth year of the Russia–Ukraine war and ongoing peace negotiations.
