Russia hits Ukrainian-Polish border area, Kyiv says

On Sunday, a Russian drone struck a train near the Ukraine-Poland border shortly after former prime ministers Boris Johnson and Carl Bildt passed through the area, Ukraine's state rail operator Ukrzaliznytsia reported.
The visitors were returning from the Yalta European Strategy conference in Kyiv when the diplomatic train purposely departed Yahodyn station ahead of schedule. Ukrzaliznytsia noted it 'constantly adjusts train schedules' to guard against strikes.
In a Telegram post, the rail operator stated, 'It is highly probable that the Russian drone's intended target was in fact the diplomatic train.' Bildt confirmed a separate train carrying CIA Director David Petraeus was evacuated nearby with no injuries.
Writing on social media, Johnson condemned the attack, questioning what 'warped logic' drove Putin to blow up a stationary Ukrainian locomotive. He added the strike exemplifies the 'random and senseless attack Ukrainians are enduring every day' on civilian railways.
Earlier Sunday, border guards reported a Russian drone hit a truck near Polish territory, forcing temporary closure of the Yahodyn-Dorohusk crossing. These strikes underscore persistent security risks along the Ukraine-Poland border despite protective measures.
