NCERT Reconstitutes Class 11, 12 Political Science Textbook Team; Four Members Have RSS Links
The new panel must weave in cultural rootedness and Indian knowledge systems as it prepares the Class 11 and 12 textbooks.
- NCERT reconstituted the Textbook Development Team for Class 11 and 12 Political Science with a mandate to integrate cultural rootedness and Indian knowledge systems into the curriculum.
- Led by academic and political analyst Sandeep Shastri, the new team includes at least four members with documented associations with the RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad or the Bharatiya Janata Party.
- Among appointed members are JNU professor Vandana Mishra, a former ABVP national secretary, and Prashant Divekar, who has longstanding ties to the Pune-based Jnana Prabodhini, an RSS-affiliated institution.
- NCERT Director Dinesh Prasad Saklani stated the team will "oversee the integration of cross-cutting themes, such as cultural rootedness, Indian knowledge systems, inclusion, educational technology, assessment, etc."
- The council has established a timeline requiring the Class 11 textbook by November and the Class 12 book by July next year to implement the new curriculum mandate.
