Rooney Puts Rashford in Front of the Biggest Challenge: the Decision Is in Your Hands
Rooney said Rashford must rebuild his relationship with fans and improve his work rate if he wants to challenge the 253-goal United record.
Wayne Rooney declared that Marcus Rashford is the only player capable of breaking his record of 253 goals for Manchester United, provided the forward demonstrates the necessary desire and commitment.
The 28-year-old Rashford returned to Old Trafford this season following loan spells at Aston Villa and Barcelona, having last played for Manchester United in December 2024 under then-manager Ruben Amorim.
Speaking on the Stick to United podcast with Mark Goldbridge on Disney+, Rooney urged Rashford to build a relationship with fans and improve his 'work rate' and body language.
Participating in Michael Carrick's pre-season preparations, Rashford is aiming for a fresh start at Manchester United after failing to secure permanent moves away from the club last term.
Rooney added that Rashford must carefully select those he trusts and maintain focus, stating, "I want him to succeed and score goals with Manchester United," rather than succeeding elsewhere.
