Rock slide shuts down highway near Jasper, Alta.
Police say the road is closed in both directions, with no injuries reported and no timeline for reopening.
Early Saturday, a rock slide in the Rocky Mountains forced Highway 16 to close to all traffic, extending from just west of Jasper, Alta., into British Columbia.
Jasper RCMP shut down the highway about 12 kilometres west of Jasper, with debris from the slide blocking the route near the Miette River, according to Alberta 511.
Authorities report no injuries or vehicles struck by falling rocks, with the closure extending to Jaune Cache in British Columbia.
Mounties are working with Parks Canada to clear the debris and redirect traffic, while police urge drivers to find alternate routes during safety assessments.
The road remains closed in both directions with no clear reopening timeline, though Alberta 511 expects a status update at noon Saturday.
