Pat Surtain II Leaves with Injury, Broncos and 49ers Tied 3-3 at Halftime
The Denver Broncos lost both starting cornerbacks, NFL All-Pro Patrick Surtain and Riley Moss, to injuries during Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers in Santa Clara, Calif.
Surtain suffered a non-contact ankle injury late in the first half and required help leaving the field, while Moss was evaluated for a rib injury; 9News Denver's Mike Klis reported both players were ruled out.
Reserve cornerbacks Jahdae Barron and Kris Abrams-Draine replaced the starters as the defense faced the 49ers; Barron is a former first-round pick, and the Broncos selected Abrams-Draine in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Despite the defensive losses, the 49ers have struggled to capitalize, as the game remains tied 3-3 with just over 10 minutes to play in the third quarter.
Moss, in his 3rd year as a starter, played 97 percent of defensive snaps last season; Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox recently identified the cornerback as one of next year's most important NFL free agents.
