As of Wednesday, groundwater may no longer be pumped for irrigation in and around ten nature reserves within the service area of the Rijn en IJssel Water Board. The board states that the temporary measure is necessary to "prevent irreparable damage to vulnerable nature" during this dry period.
The Amstel, Gooi and Vecht Water Board, which covers Amsterdam, has imposed a watering ban. The ban applies from Friday morning between 06:00 and 22:00. During those times, it is not permitted to irrigate sports fields, gardens, and pastures with water from rivers, ditches, lakes, and canals.
