Delays in armament projects are not uncommon with the Bundeswehr. For the construction of new frigates the manufacturer is to be changed. However, the possible new general contractor Rheinmetall demands significantly more money.
The frigates that Germany has ordered from the Dutch company Damen may become twice as expensive. The German shipbuilder, which is expected to take over the main contract from the overbid Damen, is asking for an additional 12 billion euros, according to the Financial Times.
