Shafaq News..IRGC Says It Struck US Bases in Erbil
The IRGC said the attack destroyed a maintenance center and warehouses and knocked out a US surveillance aerostat system, while officials reported no confirmed damage.
- On Wednesday, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed it "carried out a co-ordinated missile and drone attack on US bases in Erbil," destroying a maintenance centre and the "guidance system of a US surveillance aerostat."
- The Revolutionary Guards described the operation as retaliation for US attacks that allegedly killed Iranian civilians, including an overnight strike on a wedding celebration in Sirik, southern Iran.
- In contrast, Iraqi Kurdish counter-terrorism forces reported that "the coalition forces downed 10 explosive-laden drones in the airspace of Erbil province between 01.13 and 03.31am," resulting in no casualties.
- Kurdistan Region authorities and US forces have not confirmed any strikes occurred in Erbil, though an AFP journalist reported hearing explosions near the airport hosting coalition troops.
- Since the start of the Middle East war, the northern region has been a frequent target; the Guard claimed four people died and reported around 70 casualties overall.
