Of all the choral blockbusters, Verdi’s Requiem stands at the head of the list. Needing four soloists with opera-calbira voices, a large, very capable choir, able to sing with resounding tone in the Dies Irae, there are few works in the choral repertoire to place such demands upon chorus and orchestra alike. A great many hours of preparation are needed, especially by the chorus.
