Revelstoke's Yorke Parkin splashes Canadian Special Olympics with 2 medals for B.C.
Parkin earned gold in the 100-metre individual medley and silver in the 50-metre breaststroke, with four personal bests at the qualifying meet.
Revelstoke athlete Yorke Parkin topped the podium at the Special Olympics Canada Summer Games in Medicine Hat, Alberta, last week, securing two medals in swimming competition.
The 18-year-old multi-sport swimmer and alpine skier previously won three gold medals at the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Italy, arriving in Medicine Hat after a busy year competing across British Columbia.
On Wednesday, August 12, Parkin finished first in the 100-metre individual swim medley, then earned silver in the 50-m breaststroke on Thursday, August 13, achieving four personal bests during the competition.
Team BC Chef de Mission Michelle Cruickshank said, "Our athletes have worked incredibly hard," as the province's athletes collectively earned 101 gold, 123 silver, and 133 bronze medals at the meet.
The Medicine Hat games served as qualifiers for the 2027 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Santiago, Chile, with athletes awaiting announcements about representing Canada internationally.
