Retired First Nations Chief Named B.C. Greens Candidate in Fraser-Nicola
Patrick Michell says his campaign will focus on law, governance and climate resilience as he seeks to unseat incumbent Tony Luck.
On Wednesday, the B.C. Greens announced former Kanaka Bar Chief Patrick Michell as their Fraser-Nicola candidate, challenging incumbent MLA Tony Luck and NDP candidate Jason Leboe.
A lifelong Fraser Canyon resident, Michell practiced law in Lytton from 1997 to 2005 after graduating from Douglas College and the University of British Columbia.
Michell served as Kanaka Bar chief from 2015 to 2022 and contributed to the Kwoiek Hydro project while holding appointments to the Climate Solutions Council and the Fraser Basin Council.
Following his evacuation during the 2021 Lytton wildfires, Michell served as rebuild director for Lytton First Nations from 2023 to 2025, drawing on prior work with Northern Affairs Canada.
Seeking to represent Fraser-Nicola, Michell aims to combine Indigenous knowledge and modern science with strong local leadership to build communities that are safer and better prepared for the future.
