Residents brace for a possible Russian hybrid attack on Poland’s border with Ukraine
Patriot batteries and new alerts aim to protect border communities as officials warn Russia may use drones or rockets in ambiguous attacks.
- On Sunday, September 27, Ukraine's Third Army Corps deployed ground robots equipped with Bullspike grenade launchers to storm Russian positions during Operation Vivaldi in Donetsk Oblast. The robots fired at close range before detonating inside enemy shelters.
- Ukraine has spent the last year and a half promoting uncrewed ground vehicles to minimize human exposure to dangerous frontline roles. Unlike soldiers, these machines do not tire or lose concentration during meticulous sapping work.
- Each UGV carried two Bullspike grenade launchers, a 3.4 kg Bulgarian-made update of the Soviet RPG-22. The 780 mm launchers feature 400 mm armor penetration, enabling strikes from protected, remote locations.
- Serhii Tischenko, commander of the corps' 96th Support Battalion, said the robots provide "psychological pressure" by clearing positions without risking infantry. The NC13 unit's operation disrupted and demoralized Russian assault groups.
- Operation Vivaldi has seized about 50 square miles around Lyman, with the Third Army Corps inflicting more than 3,000 casualties on Russian forces. The corps continues utilizing aerial and ground drones to clear minefields and secure territory.
