Orphaned Kittens Meet Sharks and Stingrays on an Aquarium Field Trip at the Mall of America
The outing helped socialize the kittens and raise awareness for the rescue group, which is overseeing about 1,000 kittens this year.
- On Monday, about two dozen rescue kittens from the Bitty Kitty Brigade explored the Sea Life aquarium at the Mall in Minneapolis before public hours opened.
- Kya Anderson, an event director with the Bitty Kitty Brigade, noted these trips provide essential socialization for the 1,000 kittens the organization oversees this year, helping them adjust to future homes.
- Kittens like Lottie Dottie, Bendy Wendy, and Mouth Trap romped through the 300-foot underwater tunnel, while others named after Minnesota State Fair foods like Funnel Cake and Apple Fries watched sea turtles.
- Inside a clear dome, kitten Turkey Leg batted at passing clownfish, mimicking "Finding Nemo" scenes, while aquarium spokesperson John Sullwold noted the kittens appeared excited compared to puppies from Safe Hands Rescue.
- These outings increase awareness for the Bitty Kitty Brigade while offering the kittens new experiences; Anderson said the visits make it easier for orphaned neonatal kittens to transition into new homes once adopted.
