Man who allegedly hurled Molotov cocktails at Los Angeles Federal Building arrested: DHS
Jose F. Jovel, 54, was arrested after throwing Molotov cocktails at a federal building; ICE officers face a 1,150% increase in assaults, officials said.
- On Monday, FBI agents said an attempted firebombing targeted the Los Angeles Federal Building at 300 N. Los Angeles St., and Jose Francisco Jovel, 54, was arrested and booked into federal custody.
- Responders extinguished a fire in the Koreatown apartment at the 100 block of North Westmoreland Ave. around 4:00 a.m., now under investigation as suspected arson.
- No injuries were reported and the Molotov-type bottles did not ignite, officials said, and security guards heard anti-U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement remarks before two incendiary devices were hurled and four knives and a Leatherman tool were found on the suspect.
- The Joint Terrorism Task Force and Federal Bureau of Investigation are probing the incident, evacuating part of the building and closing Los Angeles Street between Temple and Aliso before clearing the area by about 11 a.m.
- DHS officials framed the event as part of rising threats facing federal agents, noting ICE officers face a 1,150% increase in assaults and an 8,000% rise in death threats, Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said.
