Joey Porter Jr. Traded by Pittsburgh Steelers to Dallas Cowboys, Reports Say
Dallas sent a 2027 sixth-round pick and a 2028 second-round pick for Porter, who has not played this season amid contract issues.
The Dallas Cowboys acquired cornerback Joey Porter Jr. from the Pittsburgh Steelers late Wednesday, September 30, less than 24 hours before Pittsburgh's Thursday Night Football game against the Cleveland Browns.
Porter Jr. had not played this season citing a back injury while seeking a new contract. The 26-year-old is in the final year of his rookie deal, earning $3.924 million in 2026.
Dallas is sending a 2027 6th-round pick and a 2028 2nd-round pick to Pittsburgh. This marks the third trade between the franchises since May 2025, following deals for George Pickens and Broderick Jones.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones authorized the move to strengthen a secondary allowing 27.3 points per game. The team faces the Houston Texans on Sunday, with Porter Jr.'s debut status uncertain.
Questions remain whether Dallas will grant the contract extension Porter Jr. could not secure in Pittsburgh. Spotrac projects his market value at a 4-year, $109.6 million extension.
