Repeated surveys by Chinese research ship raise security concerns in Japan
A Chinese marine research vessel conducted repeated surveys in Japan's exclusive economic zone near the disputed Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea from March through July, an analysis of automatic identification system data by Kyodo News showed Saturday.
Kyodo News discovered that between March and July of this year, the Chinese research vessel "Xiangyanghong 22" conducted surveys five times within Japan's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) near the Diaoyu Islands. The report also suggested that such surveys might be part of China's preparations for a potential invasion of Taiwan.
